Soul Glo, the punk band founded in West Philadelphia in 2014, recently became the first such band to perform a concert on NPR's Tiny Desk.

Soul Glo, the Philadelphia-based hardcore punk band, has made history by becoming the first such group to perform on NPR’s Tiny Desk, writes Dylan Itkin for XPN.

Held inside a room filled with local black and brown hardcore fans from the Washington D.C. area, the 15-minute performance featured a four-song set.

The band also set another record at Tiny Desk, by opening a Tiny Desk mosh pit.

Soul Glo was formed in West Philadelphia in 2014. The group consists of lead vocalist Pierce Jordan, drummer TJ Stevenson, and guitarist GG Guerra.

Each of the four songs performed helped highlight the group’s energy, which those in the audience strived to match.

NPR debuted its Tiny Desk concerts in 2008, and the live video series has grown in popularity over the years.

In addition to their recent Tiny Desk performance, Soul Glo will soon be hitting the road. Namely, next month the band will join local punk and indie rock band Mannequin Pussy during its tour this month, and open for the same band for three nights in May at Union Transfer.
