A group of Phillies fans are finding a fun way to raise money in honor of a longtime fan and animal welfare advocate who passed away from cancer last year, writes John McDevitt for KYW Newsradio.

Perkasie’s Beth Overmier has been a member of the Phandemic Krew, a robust baseball fan community. She is raising money in honor of her mother, Bette, who died after three bouts with cancer in November.

The fan group has pledged to donate $100 to the Pennsylvania SPCA every time a Phillies player hits a triple.

Bette pursued a degree in Zoology and her home served as a sanctuary for cats and dogs.

Her family is continuing to raise money on the Phandemic Krew’s website.
