Life’s Patina Mercantile & Cafe in Chester Springs serves up delicious lunches and tasty pastries along with antiques, furniture, and home goods, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today

The shop is on a row of buildings boasting history and pasts both unique and fascinating. Over the years, the community welcomed generals George Washington and Alexander Hamilton during the Revolutionary War and hosted some of the 19th century’s biggest celebrities, like opera singer Jenny Lind.

The building where Lind stayed and carries her name, was in a state of disrepair when Meg and Chris Veno purchased it in 2018.

“It was a restaurant before we bought it, but it had been vacant for three years,” said Meg Veno

Due to the pandemic, renovations took longer than expected, but in November 2023, Life’s Patina Mercantile & Cafe finally opened.

The shop has been a huge success. It is always packed with hungry diners who are always happy to try new specials thought up by Veno and her new chef Michael Dorris

For the future, Veno plans to turn the upper level into an inn.
