Elegance Cafe Brings Latest Baking Sensation ‘Crookie’ to Chester County
Thanks to Elegance Cafe, Chester County residents can try the latest baking sensation: the crookie, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The crookie, which is a croissant both stuffed with and covered in cookie dough, is the spiritual successor of the once widely popular pastry combinations such as the cronut, the cruffin, the croloaf, the cretzle, and the croffle.
Pastry chef Stepháne Louvard first created “le crookie” at his Paris shop Boulangerie Louvard two years ago. He baked them just for fun and sold a couple of dozen each day to his regulars.
When a food account on TikTok posted about the crookie a year later, his sales started to go up. The video published on Feb. 1 in which a food influencer dreamily devours a crookie has now amassed over 3 million views.
Since then, the crookie’s popularity continued to grow and now everybody seems to want a piece of it.
Crumbl, the cookie chain, has started offering them at some of its locations. In the Philadelphia area, Elegance Cafe, with locations in Wayne and Paoli, is also among the first to offer the crookies as a special.
