Downingtown Group Stays Ready to Jump Into Action at Next Inevitable Disaster
A Downingtown nonprofit, known as Downingtown Strong, has formed in the wake of numerous flooding and other natural disasters that have impacted the community in the past and will continue to happen in the future, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
Downingtown residents won’t be caught unawares again. One of the most recent and most devastating events occurred in 2021 when Hurricane Ida hit the county and other regions, leaving damage in its path.
Downingtown Strong was created to provide recovery services such as distributing basic needs like food, water, and clothing, debris and home clean-up, and more. Every service is free of charge and led by dedicated nonprofit volunteers. Additionally, funds raised go towards helping local victims of disasters.
“In the wake of Hurricane Ida, the citizens of Downingtown and various civic organizations, such as our churches, came together to help those who were devastated by the storm’s effects,” said Mayor Phil Dague. “Downingtown Strong has been created to get organized in advance of the next disaster to strike Downingtown, be it flood, fire, a train wreck, or whatever.”
Currently, the group is reaching out to form partnerships to aid in their mission to prep before the next disaster strikes.
