Freedom Village at Brandywine’s Outreach Committee recently held its 12th annual Valentine’s Day raffle/bake sale, ‘spreading the love’ in the form of donations to various community groups during the month of February.

The outreach committee made up of Freedom Village senior residents who are dedicated to giving back, raised roughly $2,400.

For the raffle, the outreach committee collected gift cards from various markets to fill gift baskets.

Each year, there are three different themed baskets: a wine basket, a sweets-and-treats basket, and a coffee basket.

Additionally, the outreach committee’s knitting group makes a beautiful knitted blanket every year to include in the raffle.

The bake sale is always a success, as each resident contributes either monetarily or by donating their own homemade baked goods.

Due to the residents’ generous contributions to the bake sale, the committee only purchases labels and bags to put the baked goods in.  This year, most of the residents put their own goodies into bags, and the committee just had to price them.

Proceeds from this Valentine’s raffle/bake sale help support local charities, including, but not limited to:

“We look forward to the Valentine’s Day raffle and bake goods sale every year,” said Freedom Village at Brandywine Executive Director Danielle Geyer. “This event is just one of many that provides a way for our residents and the team at Freedom Village to give back to our local community of Chester County.”

Freedom Village associates also participated in “Soup for the Super Bowl.” This fundraising event allowed associates to wear jeans on the two Fridays in February leading up to the Super Bowl by donating soup on those days. Freedom Village gave 100 pounds of non-perishable soups to the Chester County Food Bank.
