Richard Newell, who is currently president and CEO of Phoenixville Hospital and Pottstown Hospital, has been named the next CEO of Chestnut Hill Hospital.

Temple Health has announced that Richard Newell will step in as the next CEO of Chestnut Hill Hospital, effective April 8, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal

Newell is currently president and CEO of Phoenixville Hospital and Pottstown Hospital, both of which are owned and operated by Tower Health.

He has led Pottstown Hospital for the past eight years, as both hospitals for nearly three.

Prior to that, Newell served as CEO of Carlisle Regional Medical Center in Central Pennsylvania, and chief operating officer of Roxborough Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia.

Newell’s appointment as CEO of Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital serves as a homecoming, as he spent four years at Temple University Hospital in numerous roles, such as senior physical therapist, clinical manager, and manager of outpatient services. He also received his master’s degree and doctorate of physical therapy from Temple University

His hiring comes after Temple Health announced earlier this month that it was overhauling the leadership team at Chestnut Hill Hospital.

Temple Health acquired the 148-bed Chestnut Hill Hospital from Tower Health at the start of 2023 as part of an alliance with Redeemer Health and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
