The Bidens visit with restaurant owners Jack and David Cunicelli in Rose Valley.

President Joe Biden kicked off his re-election campaign with a rally Friday evening at Strath Haven Middle School in Wallingford, but first, he and the First Lady made an unscheduled stop to visit a family in Rose Valley, writes Julia Terruso and Jesse Bunch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Bidens greeted Jack Cunicelli, his wife Monica Gagliardi, and their four-year-old daughter Stella.

Jill Biden gave Stella an Easter basket.

Brothers Jack and David Cunicelli own the 320 Market Café in Media and Swarthmore.

Biden told reporters his son Hunter went to school in Delaware with the older brother, reported Amanda Fitzpatrick and Carmen Russell-Sluchansky for WHYY.

“We were talking about the school that they went to and family connections,” said Biden.

Biden said it was a good conversation, and “it was like the family I grew up with.”

“He’s an incredibly warm person … it was a huge honor,” Jack Cunicelli said..

Talking to reporters, the brothers credited the federal government’s pandemic relief support with keeping their two locations in business.

“At the beginning of COVID, it was scary,” David Cunicelli said. “The money that we got through the government program was huge in helping our staff stay on.”
