Even in the wintry weather, Longwood Gardens features captivating displays to take you on a magical adventure.

While we may not think that winter is a time for growth, flowers, and plants, it’s a different story at Kennett Square’s Longwood Gardens, writes Erin Negley for Lancaster Online.

Anthurium has some distinct varieties in Longwood’s winter display, including Sempre, which is a dark, chocolatey bronze anthurium. There’s also Anthurium Livium, which has a pink spathe, adorned with white veins and light green accents.

Since Longwood’s plants are tended to by professionals and arein perfect growing conditions, they are able to thrive to their fullest potential. Longwood Gardens features plants, such as neon pothos, with their leaves as big as hands, tall cacti, beautifully blooming aloe, and a large hanging rabbit foot’s fern.

A special edition to the winter display is the Himalayan blue-poppy. It is said to be the purest blue flower and will be ready for the spotlight display in mid-March.

The orchid house is small, but mighty, with 500 plants living there. The orchids change daily, so there’s always something new to experience.

Longwood features a beautiful “curtain” of plants, with a special 100-year-old bougainvillea wrapped around the pillars. The plant dates back to 1920 when the conservatory first opened.

The garden path showcases mixes of color, texture, and seasonality and displays lush begonias, lilies, and more.
