West Chester University’s Leah Johnson Breaks Women’s Basketball Tecord
Following an impressive basketball career at Notre Dame High School, Leah Johnson has been crushing records at West Chester University, writes Joe O’Gorman for The Trentonian.
Johnson has a new title of all-time leading scorer for WCU women’s basketball after a stellar game where she scored 28 points. Johnson holds the record with 1,643 points and counting. Not only that, but she is also the career assist leader with 565 assists.
“I don’t think it has really hit me,” she said. “It’s awesome and it’s a lot of hard work that has paid off. It was staying the course and seeing it through. There’s no other place, school, or team that I’d want to play for or coaching staff. It’s just surreal.’’
This has been a career-defining moment for Johnson, who was once cut from an AAU team. While she hasn’t always felt like the best basketball player, She knew that reigniting her love for the sport was imperative to her career. She credits her support system for her achievements as well.
I know what I’ve been able to accomplish and the people around me have let me know when I’ve done something special,’’ said Johnson. ”I’ve been supported by the coaching staff; my teammates and I get support from my family. II have a great village.’’
