Two Coatesville School Robotics Teams Headed to State Championships
The Coatesville Robotics Teams from both Coatesville Area Senior High School and Coatesville Intermediate School are headed to the state tournament in Hellertown on March 16 and 17, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
The first team consists of students grades ten to 12, while the younger team is made up of students grades eight to nine.
The two teams took the Pennsylvania FIRST Robotics’ First Tech Challenge and both returned home with invitations to the Pennsylvania championship.
For the last five months, students met three times per week to program, design, build, and prepare for the competition. The robots students built can pick up two pieces of plastic and move them to a designated spot. Points were awarded based on how many pieces, also known as pixels, were delivered.
Around 30 teams competed in two divisions and both Coatesville groups placed in the top four of each division, which earned them a place at the state finals.
“At states, we’ll be working with the best of the best,” said Davis, one of the team members. “It will be a lot more of a challenge.”
