To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, dozens of volunteers from W.C. Atkinson Memorial Community Service Center in Coatesville and the community are renovating a duplex home for three men experiencing homelessness, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.

The center already has a shelter that can house a maximum of 22 men who are experiencing homelessness. Its motto is “A Place Men Can Call Home.”

Now, volunteers are working to increase the number of spaces by renovating a three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom living unit in the heart of Coatesville. The finished house will be home to three working men who are looking for permanent housing.

The project is being done in honor of King and his “Poor Peoples Campaign.” The renovations are expected to last two weeks and be completed on Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“We are paying homage to that dream to have it completed on his birthday,” said Atkinson Shelter Coordinator Andrew McNeil Jr. “To see someone move into the house after it’s completed will make for a successful end.”
