A crew of writers at The Philadelphia Inquirer got together and listed the top 50 movies from the Philadelphia area, with a few from Chester County making the cut, write Rosa Cartagena, Dan DeLuca, Peter Dobrin, and more.

Coming in a No. 50 is Rustin, which made its debut late last year surrounding West Chester native Bayard Rustin. Played by West Philly actor Colman Domingo, Rustin shines as an LGBTQ historical icon during the time of the Civil Rights Movement.

At No. 28, Marley & Me is considered a heartfelt and one of the best dog movies, featuring a rambunctious dog Marley and a family who learns from him. Some of the scenes were filmed in West Chester.

Alfred Hitchcock landed at No. 26 with his film, Marnie, which was filmed in Chester County. While cinematically interesting due to it being described as a “suspenseful sex mystery” from 1964, the film is also considered catastrophic because of what happened behind the scenes.

Adam Sandler’s Hustle made headlines in the area when it was revealed that a filming location featured Coatesville Area High School. Starring Sandler as a down-on-his-luck Philadelphia 76ers scout, he finds talent in a player from Spain, making the movie land at No. 13.

Arguably one of the most well-known films in Chester County, The Blob made the list at No. 10. It was filmed at the historic Colonial Theatre and around Phoenixville.

Directed by Willistown’s M. Night Shyamalan, The Sixth Sense is one of the most popular and terrifying films from the area, coming in hot at No. 3. It gives a nod to PECO, Acme, the Eagles, and other locales that only the region would be familiar with.
