Malvern Breast Cancer Survivor Creates Fashionable, Practical Clothing Line for Mastectomy Recovery

By

Malvern’s Kelly Hobbs, a breast cancer survivor, created a fashionable and practical clothing line to help others who battled breast cancer and are recovering from a mastectomy, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6ABC.

Following her mastectomy, Hobbs had to wear surgical drains for several weeks. While the discomfort was mitigated by medical equipment, any fashion was significantly lacking.

“So, I went and sewed some pockets into some of my own button-down and zip-up shirts,” she said. “And then put that idea in my head that this could be something I can do to help people going through this after me.”

Hobbs, who already had Kelly Bee Designs, added Kelly Bee Recovery to her offerings. She sewed thousands of mastectomy garments, including hoodies, pajamas, and tank tops.

She became so successful that her products are now being manufactured. Still, she continues to hand-sew some of the special requests and gifts.

“And every time I send an order out, I write a note with it,” she said. “Just, I hope everything goes well with your surgery and I feel like I’m just sending them a little, like, hug.”
