After It Was Flood-Damaged Two Years Ago, Iconic Chadds Ford Eatery Hank’s Place Will Return
Lovers of good food in Chadds Ford will be happy to know that the iconic Hank’s Place will be returning to town, writes Rich Schwartzman for Chadds Ford Live.
The popular eatery was damaged beyond repair by a flood two years ago. Owners Anthony and Katie Young said they planned to demolish the existing building and rebuild it.
However, the preparation process took longer than expected and the owners recently managed to overcome the last hurdle — they signed a mandatory agreement for shared parking with two other restaurant property owners.
The tentative date to begin the demolition process is set for Dec. 4. It will be managed by DLI Construction of West Chester.
The owners originally hoped to start the demolition process in April but they had to wait for the parking agreement to be signed, even though the parking had been shared since 2017 under a gentlemen’s agreement.
Groundbreaking for the rebuild of the restaurant is scheduled for Dec. 11. Until the building is completed, Hank’s Place will continue to operate at its Kennett Square location.
