Hank’s Place in Chadds Ford plans to return better than ever after it was destroyed by Hurricane Ida in September last year, writes J.F. Pirro for Main Line Today

When the storm hit, the river flooded the restaurant, leaving everything inside the restaurant floating in more than seven feet of water. Owners Katie and Anthony Young were devastated.

“That night, we were in shock,” said Anthony. “Once the gas was shut off, we could finally enter — and that was the ‘oh shit’ moment. Fish were swimming around with unrefrigerated food.”

Now, under the moniker of Blue Door Hospitality Group, the couple are committed to rebuilding this local landmark. For the past year, the Youngs have navigated friction from opponents in the neighborhood, township bureaucracy, and other challenges. But they are not planning on giving up.

“Our resolve has definitely been tested,” said Anthony. “Now, we’re too stubborn to give up.”

Over the past year, the Youngs have been running a food truck in Hank’s parking lot. The main goal is to stay connected to the community as they navigate the complicated renovation process.
