The Geminids can be seen easily without light pollution in places like French Creek State Park in Elverson.

The Geminids, which many consider to be the best meteor showers of the year, can be observed over the Philadelphia region late on Wednesday night and into the early morning hours of Thursday, writes Anthony R. Wood for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

During that peak period, as many as 135 meteors can enter the atmosphere per hour. At the right spot, around half of them may be visible.

One of the best places to observe this beautiful phenomenon is French Creek State Park in Elverson. You can leave your car at the Hopewell Lake lot, where you are highly likely to meet other enthusiasts of the night sky.

To make sure the entire experience is fully enjoyable, bring a lawn or reclining beach chair to stay off the cold ground, and arm yourself with a blanket.

Also, make sure to take a minimum of 20 minutes to adjust to the darkness by not looking at any lighted objects.

“If you want to ruin your night,” said Bill Cooke, the lead of NASA’s Meteoroid Environments Office, “look at your phone.”
