Downingtown resident Erica Deuso has set two challenging goals for herself in the 2024 race for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, writes Michael P. Rellahan for The Daily Local News.

She is hoping to beat incumbent state Rep. Danielle Friel-Otten, one of the best-known names of the county’s Democratic caucus. Friel-Otten is best known for leading the efforts against the controversial Mariner East pipeline.

Deuso is also hoping to become Chester County’s first openly transgender candidate to win a seat in the General Assembly.

Deuso highlighted the groundbreaking nature of her candidacy in her campaign announcement.

A Deuso “victory would give representation to the 80,000-plus transgender Pennsylvanians in Harrisburg for the first time,” reads a statement from her campaign. “I firmly believe that in 2024, it’s about time that … transgender Pennsylvanians across the state have direct representation in the State House and a genuine voice in Harrisburg.”

Deuso also noted that she is a pro-labor, pro-choice, and pro-environment Democrat and said that she recognizes that the “3 E’s — Economy, Education, Environment — are crucial to the future of the county and Pennsylvania.”
