RTS Awareness Night Nov. 30 benefits The Arc of Chester County's Inclusive Outdoor Playground Project.

Malvern Prep’s ice hockey team is taking on the St. Joe’s Prep team this Thursday, Nov. 30, as part of Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome (RTS) Awareness Night, with raised funds benefitting the Arc of Chester County.

RTS Awareness Night will take place from 6 to 9 PM at Ice Line, 700 Lawrence Drive in West Chester.

In addition, there will be a 50/50 raffle, and the Goal Line Pub at Ice Line will be hosting a Dine and Donate from 3 to 9 PM, which will also benefit the cause.

The two middle school teams, JV and Varsity, will play against each other at Ice Line. The JV game is slated to begin at 3:30 PM, with the Middle School game starting at 5:10 and the Varsity game getting underway at 6:30 PM.

Malvern Prep and St. Joe’s Prep are hosting the event and are showing their support for Malvern Prep Coach Bill Keenan’s family and his three-year-old son, Connor, who has been diagnosed with RTS.

Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome (RTS) is a rare genetic syndrome that only occurs in about 1 in 125,000 births. Those with RTS have an intellectual disability along with both developmental and physical delays. Some have many medical issues, but all are unique in their own way.

Connor is currently a student in The Arc’s Children’s Early Learning Services Program. He is a happy little boy with a contagious smile who loves going to the beach, listening to music, spending time with his family, and being outdoors.

Connor was diagnosed with RTS and currently receives specialized educational services and multiple therapies to ensure he continues to make progress.

Along with raising awareness for RTS, this night will honor Connor and show support for individuals with RTS and The Arc of Chester County.

The goal is to raise funds to support The Arc’s Inclusive Outdoor Playground Project.

The Arc’s mission is to advocate, educate, and provide services that empower individuals with disabilities and their families to enhance the quality of their lives.
