If you watch cable television you might be familiar with Subaru’s tagline, “Share the Love.” The car manufacturer has donated over $256 million to local charities over the last 15 years. Rafferty Subaru, located on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square, has chosen Partners in Outreach as a recipient organization for the past nine years.

Partners in Outreach is 100 percent volunteer-run and provides children with summer camp backpacks, Easter outfits, and baskets, as well as resources to improve literacy. PIO was established in 2010 to serve communities and provide service opportunities. The founders saw people who wanted to help and children who needed support and set out to make connections.

Similarly, Rafferty Suburu has chosen local charities that embody their values and has donated thousands to support these organizations. Last year, Rafferty Subaru donated $20,000 towards the Partners in Outreach programs. As we approach winter, they are donating over 250 coats for children in need.

For PIO volunteer, Deb Davis, the winter coat drive sparked an idea. What goes well with a winter coat? A winter hat, of course! Davis and friends Virginia Wheeler and Gisela Krause knitted over 400 hats to be given out with the coats. Between Rafferty Suburu and Partners in Outreach there will be plenty of warmth to go around.
