Race for Chester County Board of Commissioners to Determine Who Controls These Suburbs
The race for Chester County Board of Commissioners could indicate if Democrats can maintain control in the suburbs of Philadelphia after winning big here in 2019, writes Jesse Bunch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Four years ago, Democrats captured the majority for the first time in the county’s history. Currently, the county’s electorate is sharply split between red and blue camps. While Democrats still have an advantage over Republicans in registered voters — around 8,000 — the party also saw more of its voters go back to the GOP last year than any other year since 2016.
This year, Josh Maxwell and Marian Moskowitz, two Democratic incumbents, are vying for reelection to the board. They are running against Republicans Eric Roe and David Sommers.
The top three of the four candidates will be elected to the board.
During the campaign, the two Democrats are highlighting their investment in public health services and addiction treatment and their advocating for the creation of affordable developments while preserving green spaces.
The Republican candidates said they also plan on prioritizing land conservation while managing Chester County’s expansion.
