One of Montgomery County’s most famous duos, Hall & Oates, is on the outs, and it seems to be serious as Hall is taking Oates to court, write Patrick Rapa and Sandy Hingston for the Philadelphia Magazine.

Daryl Hall, who grew up near Pottstown, and John Oates, a North Wales native, have eight platinum records together and six number one hits. However, despite this, the two have often gone for years without playing together.

“It’s very annoying to be a duo,” said Hall in a last year’s interview. “Everything you do is juxtaposed against another person. Try doing that sometime. I don’t want to use the word ‘emasculating,’ because that’s male, but it takes away your individuality.”

During their breaks, they have both recorded solo records, performed solo shows, and started solo enterprises.

Still, this is the first time there has been litigation between the two musicians.

Last week, Hall filed a lawsuit in Nashville chancery court. The details of the suit are unclear outside of knowing that it is a “contract/debt” matter, as neither party has yet made a statement on the actual situation.
