The "Better Than Bacon" improvisational group will perform Nov. 11 at "Comedy for a Cause" to benefit Safe Harbor of Chester County.

Safe Harbor of Chester County is the benefactor of “Comedy for a Cause,” an improvised comedy event from suburban Philadelphia’s improv comedy troupe “Better Than Bacon,” taking place Saturday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 PM, at the Uptown Knauer Performing Arts Center in West Chester.

The comedy event will benefit the work of Safe Harbor of Chester County and ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester.

A special guest, the acoustic dork-rock duo Hot Breakfast will open the show.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.  You can purchase tickets here.

In 2017, “Better Than Bacon” started its “Bacon Gives Back” program that provides local non-profit organizations like Safe Harbor the chance to raise funds based on ticket sales from the troupe’s performances.

This is the fourth year that the “Better Than Bacon” improv troupe has teamed up with Uptown for the benefit event.

For those unable to attend the Nov. 11 event, donations are gladly accepted. You can make a donation here.

“Better Than Bacon” is a short-form improv comedy troupe based in West Chester. The troupe performs short skits and games based on audience suggestions, often inviting audience members on stage to help out.

This is a one-time-only performance done without a script (or a net) that will never be repeated.

“Better Than Bacon” started with a group of friends who met at a local improv comedy class. In 2010, the 13-member troupe branched out on its own with its first professional gig in 2011.

ACT in Faith is an interfaith organization whose mission is to build a community that empowers the un- and under-employed
to stabilize their households and build toward self-sustainability

Safe Harbor is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide emergency housing, food, and access to support services in a
structured environment for unhoused single men and women in Chester County.

Since 1994, Safe Harbor’s goals have reached beyond just providing emergency shelter and services for adults experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.

Safe Harbor seeks to understand each person’s background, create short-term action plans to address his or her challenges and needs, monitor progress, and give direction.

By providing this assistance and guidance, the hope is they may overcome the issues that prevented them from leading independent, productive lives.

Safe Harbor collaborates with other human service agencies, and together they strive to rebuild lives, teach daily living skills, reestablish self-esteem, offer hope, and move the unhoused toward permanent housing. What was truly impossible before can now be seen as within their grasp.

Safe Harbor residents are referred to Act in Faith to obtain services to help with employment, including clothing, transportation support, cell phones, job coaching, and more; referrals are also made to help with initial permanent housing
move in costs and previous debt resolution.

Act in Faith encounters those experiencing homelessness and refers men and women to Safe Harbor for emergency shelter
support and food support in their Community Lunch Program.
