Legendary Football Coach Wraps Up Career at West Chester University

Bill Zwann just finished his last game of his career at West Chester University.

Bill Zwaan wrapped up a legendary football coaching career last week after leading the Golden Rams to another of the many victories he achieved during his 20 seasons as West Chester University’s head coach, writes Mike Jensen for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Between West Chester and Widener, where he coached previously for five seasons, Zwaan won a total of 217 games as a local head coach.

The 69-year-old led the Golden Rams to the NCAA playoffs ten times as well as to the national semifinals twice.

For his final game, he made sure to keep his players focused, especially since it was the last game for many of them as well.

“It’s Senior Day,” said Zwaan before the game. “I don’t want the seniors to miss out on their day. I’m trying to keep things on the side while we do that. It’s hard. There’s a lot of people who make it bigger than it needs to be.”

After the game ended, a sea of his former players flooded the field to talk to Zwaan and take pictures with him. A fitting farewell for a legendary coach who influenced many lives.
