WCASD New Mentoring Program Focuses on Parents Acting as Resources

By

The West Chester Area School District is making district parents the focus of a new mentoring program it is launching, according to a staff report from 6abc.

“The goal of this mentorship is to have mentors for parents,” said Dr. Una Martin, the interim director of equity for the school district. “They will act as a resource, as a coach, and as a model to support parents.”

The district is currently looking for around 40 mentors to help parents new to the district navigate the school community, connect parents with various resources, or act as extra advocates for struggling households.

The district allows time for students to get settled into the school year to determine who could benefit from the program the most.

Mentors will receive training before they get paired up with parents.
