Longwood Reimagined: A New Garden Experience project has achieved a major construction milestone: the centerpiece glass house is now fully encased in glass, according to a staff report from The Daily Local News.

The 32,000-square-foot structure is the largest single element of Longwood Reimagined. It was designed by Weiss/Manfredi, while its gardens, pools, and fountains were designed by Reed Hilderbrand.

Currently, concrete is being poured on its interior walkways. The installation of its signature water features has also started.

Meanwhile, the bespoke 3,800-square-foot glass conservatory is now in the process of having all of its 484 panels of glass installed. The conservatory was designed to house the only extant design created by the revered Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx in North America.

The latest milestone brings the completion date for the project closer.

“We are reimagining and rethinking what the garden under glass experience will be for the 21st century,” said Paul B. Redman, president and CEO of Longwood Gardens. “These new glass palaces continue Longwood’s legacy of being one of the world’s innovators in conservatory design and leading patrons of garden and landscape design.”
