71-Year-Old West Chester Woman One of Phillies’ Biggest Fans – Whether They Are Winning or Losing
Whether the Phillies are winning or losing, 71-year-old Debbie Torchiana, of West Chester, never wavers in her support for the team, writes Dave Uram for KYW Newsradio.
“You never give up on them because they don’t give up and that’s what’s so great about watching them,” said one of the team’s biggest fans.
Torchiana is a retired mother of two and a grandmother. She has an infectious energy and strong knowledge of the Phillies through multiple eras.
“She’ll cheer, she’ll yell, she’ll certainly text folks,” said her daughter, Jaime Torchiana. “That’s classic mom when they do a great hit and she stays up well past their bedtime when they’ve gone into extra innings.”
Torchiana became a fan of the Phillies thanks to her late mother, Gloria Walsh. Whenever she watched a game, the daughter felt a connection. It was a common interest between them and has been shared with the younger generations as well.
“It’s been that connection, that family glue, to not only honor my grandmother’s legacy, and what she enjoyed, because we would always catch up about the games, but now my mom texts my daughter about the game,” said Jaime.
