Berwyn-based Playfly Sports Has Big Expansion Plans for the Future
Berwyn-based Playfly Sports has grown into the second-most prolific marketing and media firm in the college space in the three years since it was established, writes Michael Smith for the Sports Business Journal.
The company’s founder Mike Schreiber now plans to continue expanding the firm with the help of his two primary financial backers, Access Holdings and Sinclair Broadcast Group.
The company has achieved this growth primarily through acquisitions, such as the $35 million purchase of Outfront Media Sports. Now, thanks to positive cash flow and low debt, the company is well-positioned for similar moves in the future.
“We actually have a ton of capacity to buy more things and spend to grow our business further,” said Schreiber.
The company also expanded into professional sports with the acquisitions of advertising sales agency Home Team Sports and Bernie Mullins’ Aspire Group, a ticketing sales and marketing business.
“That really propelled us forward,” said Schreiber. “When we were able to combine our pro and college inventory, it had a tide-that-rises-all-boats effect. … We’ve already sold many deals where a brand was looking in a certain region, and we could give them college, pro, and high school.”
