Earlier this week, the Pottstown Metropolitan Regional Planning Committee reviewed designs for a new 155-unit housing project on a just over 100-acre triangle of land in East Coventry, at the intersection of Route 724 and Fricks Lock Road and Sanatoga Road, writes Evan Brandt for The Daily Local News

The project, called “Villages at Fricks Lock,” was proposed by Devon-based Artisan Development Group. The project would place homes close to each other to be able to leave close to 60 acres of open space on the site. In addition, the project would need a re-alignment of Fricks Lock Road and a new traffic light added to the road.

According to Marley Bice, Montgomery County Community Planner and advisor to the Pottstown Metropolitan Area Regional Planning Committee, the project’s design was encouraged by Pennsylvania’s “Growing Greener” initiative.

“By putting the houses closer together, they get more units and you preserve more open space,” said Bice.

The project combines five parcels currently used for farming and complies with the current zoning. Larry Tietjen, a member of the East Coventry Planning Commission, said the project is still in the preliminary approval state.
