N.C. Wyeth Painting Bought for $4 at a Thrift Store Sells for $191K at Auction
A painting purchased for $4 at a Savers in Manchester, New Hampshire, years ago turned out to be the long-lost N.C. Wyeth illustration, “Ramona,” writes Danielle Ellis for CBS News Philadelphia.
The thriftier bought the painting of two women in front of a religious statue when she was looking for old frames to repurpose. For years, the painting was forgotten in her closet. Then she decided to post a picture of it on Facebook and got quickly referred to Brandywine Museum of Art in Chadds Ford.
A conservator drove to her home immediately and confirmed it was a legitimate and valuable piece by the famous Chadds Ford artist.
The painting was put up for auction and sold for a whopping $191,000.
