A Kennett Square fundraiser for a free camp that serves children impacted by HIV and AIDS will be reaching great heights. On September 29, volunteers will be “rappeling” down the town’s tallest building, The Franklin Center Building, writes Steven Hoffman for the Chester County Press.

Camp Dreamcatcher was established 27 years ago by executive director Patty Hillkirk. Each summer, for about a week, more than 100 children from all around the East Coast participate in an abundance of fun, therapeutic, and educational activities.

The camp has all the usual summer activities, like outdoor games or swimming. But what makes the weeklong program unique is the support it provides to children who might face stigma.

This year, the staff included over 170 volunteers and the number of counselors has increased from 8 to 11.

Over the Edge Fundraiser aims to raise $100,000 for the camp. For those who want to rappel down eight stories, no experience is necessary, but they must raise a minimum of $1,000 to reserve their spots on the ropes.

Read more about the camp’s legacy and how it empowers children affected by HIV/Aids in the Chester County Press.
