More mental healthcare is coming to West Chester.

Amid the shuttering of Brandywine Hospital, there has been a dearth of mental health services in Chester County. Now, an oasis in what was described as a “mental health desert” is coming to West Chester, and soon there will be 72 new inpatient beds, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.

A state-of-the-art facility located across from Chester County Hospital will provide essential mental health services for the community and beyond. The renovation of the former hospice and rehab center will cost $20 million. It will be under the auspices of Haven Behavioral Health and serve inpatients and outpatients around the clock.

CEO Jeff Hunt, who will lead the new facility, has 35 years of experience with a prior executive position at Brandywine Hospital.

“We will be here to service the community, patients, county professionals, and anyone who needs help 24/7,” he said. “I want to make it easy for patients to have prompt access to the most clinically appropriate level of care.”

The interior of the hospital will include well-lit rooms, safe furniture, beds, and restrooms, and a courtyard.
