West Chester florist Sherrerd Steele’s passion came into full bloom during her son’s wedding in 2019, writes Tamala Edwards for 6ABC.

Steele, who previously had a career in geology and engineering, designed his floral arrangement. It was at that moment she realized she wanted to use her flower power to start a business. Thus in 2020, Steele Orchid Floral Design was born.

Steele’s business specializes particularly in weddings and big events and uses organic and “free flowing” materials. Steele also incorporates wildflowers and forages from her yard. Her arrangements also use “very little greens” which distinguishes her from other designers.

“I want to give my clients something to ‘wow’ about,” she says.

Steele also offers “floral tattoos”, which is an alternative option to jewelry. Brides can literally get an adhesive to stick to their bodies as a unique accessory.

She uses larger flowers from her gardens and picks them apart for tattoo ideas. Steele wants to use the tattoos to make the bride the “center” of the event.
