New Coffee Shop, Florist Pops in West Chester

West Chester has recently welcomed a new coffee shop/florist, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
Mayday Coffee Shop opened its doors at the former site of Jane Chalfant. Owner Austin Piona, who went to Downingtown East High School, said the shop was named after the “mayday” someone might call out when seeking help.
“It’s important to have a place where people feel inspired and motivated to pursue their own ideas and aspirations,” said Piona.
Piona is a University of San Diego finance and real estate graduate. He quickly realized that working for a large finance firm was not his cup of tea. He took “a journey” with mental health and decided to use that as an inspiration for his coffee shop.
“It’s all about taking care of yourself and taking care of the community,” he said.
At the charming space, baristas mix with the customers.
“Employees and customers are all about uplifting each other in a space that will help them get through their day,” said Piona.
The shop offers handcrafted coffees and house-made syrups, as well as toast, sandwiches, and yogurt, among other meals. A florist is present at the shop from 7 AM to 4 PM.
