A special “pocket” of Red Clay Park has recently broken ground. The site is set to undergo transformative changes so visitors can enjoy nature in an accessible way, writes Jen Samuel for The Daily Local News.

The $1 million demonstration project is part of an initiative to create a 14-mile greenway trail system through Kennett Square, Kennett Township, New Garden, East Marlborough, and New Castle County, Delaware.

This larger initiative is known as the Kennett Greenway trail system.

The same of the “pocket” is still to be determined, but community members can submit a name online.

Once opening, the pocket will be a space that allows people of all mobilities to access. There will also be a stone terrace pathway to a stony beach, lighted pathways and picnic areas, play spaces, access to the Greenway, and more.

Meanwhile, a groundbreaking site for Kennett Bike Park was held on Aug. 17, which will complete its first phase by November.
