Jeff Travitz, a franchise development manager in Downingtown, is a Dave Matthews Band superfan who has recorded more than 100 of their concerts over the years, writes Perri Ormont Blumberg for The New York Times

Travitz was originally a “Deadhead,” as the Grateful Dead fans are affectionately called, but he gravitated towards Dave Matthews Band after the lead songwriter of Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia, died in 1995.

Both bands are unique, but they both filled the same “major void” for Travitz to meet up with friends, tape the shows he is attending, and trade recordings.

One of the things he appreciates about Dave Matthews Band the most is how they cover songs and interpolate snippets of others into their own tunes. Their covers include “Money” by Pink Floyd, “Burning Down the House” by the Talking Heads, and Neil Young’s “Hey Hey, My My.”

“It always makes the show fun when they play a song you’re totally not expecting,” said Travitz.
