Jamoca Harkins has always loved cooking — especially making Southern desserts — and she has turned that love into a business by opening the Butter Pecan Café in Coatesville, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News

The Coatesville resident held a grand opening celebration on Aug. 5. Some of the lovely desserts she offers at the 10-by-10-foot space at the Made in Coatesville Small Business Incubator include banana pudding, 7-Up Cake, Sock it to Me Cake, sweet potato pie, and peach cobbler, as well as triple chocolate mousse cake and carrot cake. However, the shop’s specialty is butter pecan ice cream.

“In our family when we have dessert we always have butter pecan ice cream — it’s our tradition,” said Harkins. “And I want to share that with my customers.”

Harkins decided to bring a touch and taste of the South to Coatesville because memories of Southern food always bring happiness and good memories in her.

“I have happy family memories of enjoying good desserts,” she said. Plus, “you can have an experience with food and you don’t have to travel.”
