Auntie Anne's and Herr's and two of the most popular food brands to come out of Chester County.

Pennsylvania may not be the state that first comes to mind as the home of some of the most famous food brands in the country, but there are many nationally known food brands that got their start here, writes James Wesser for abc27 News.

A few of them originated in Chester County, including the popular Auntie Anne’s and Herr’s.

Auntie Anne’s is one of the most famous pretzel chains in the country. It got its start in 1988 when Lancaster County native Anne Beiler started a stand at a Downingtown Farmer’s Market to help her husband offer free counseling services in their community.

The small business has since exploded and now has more than 1,500 locations around the globe in shopping malls, colleges, and travel plazas, among other places. Beiler sold her company in 2005.

Herr’s is a popular snack chip company that was founded in Nottingham in 1946. It is well known and liked for its delicious snack foods, from cheese puffs to potato chips and much more.

Herr’s has been a staple of snack lovers since its inception. Today, the company has more than 340 items on the market.
