The Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid married his longtime girlfriend, Sports Illustrated model Anne de Paula, in a Hamptons wedding ceremony on Saturday, writes Michael Lee Simpson for People.

The couple, who are parents to two-year-old Arthur, exchanged vows in a church ceremony after posing for pictures on Cryder Beach.

The 29-year-old Embiid wore a white tuxedo and bow tie. The bride wore a white dress and a veil, accentuated by a bouquet of white roses.

The couple’s relationship started as a good friendship. They were introduced by a mutual friend in 2018. At the time, de Paula did not realize Embiid was an NBA player and they barely spoke to each other.

However, they later reconnected because they realized they actually had a lot in common, including their love of soccer, their knowledge of French, and their hopes of starting a family one day.

“We FaceTimed every day for a while,” said de Paula in an ESPN interview. “He just has this personality where he wants to motivate you.”

The couple became parents in September 2020, when their son Arthur was born.
