Chester County Residents Can Now Get Their Unwanted Clothes Picked Up for Charity, Recycling
A new service is coming to Chester County that will help residents get rid of their old clothes in a sustainable and conscientious way. Helpsy has programs across the Northeast region, including Boston, Manchester, and Worcester, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today.
This program has expanded to Pennsylvania, partnering with Upper Darby’s The Wardrobe. The goal is to recycle old clothing and redistribute them to people who are considered “clothing insecure.”
All Chester County residents must do is put in a request on the website and leave their unwanted clothes on their front porch. Drivers arrive between 7 in the morning to five in the evening, but no one has to be home for the pick-up.
“The Philadelphia community is stylish and generous, and this partnership with Helpsy allows The Wardrobe supporters a convenient way to recycle their clothing while generating operating revenue for our organization,” said Sheri Cole, Executive Director of The Wardrobe.
According to Main Line Today, 75 percent of the clothes picked up will be used in community benefit programs by The Wardrobe. About a quarter of clothing picked up will be recycled.
