Marple Newtown High School graduate Frederick Hubler is the founder and CEO of Chester Springs-based Creative Capital Wealth Management Group.

A contributor to Forbes.com, he has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, and a number of other media outlets for his vast knowledge of alternative wealth-creation strategies.

Hubler’s proudest professional achievement was starting his firm in 2003.

“Twenty years later, we are nationally recognized for our use of alternative investment strategies to minimize stock market risk,” he said.

Hubler credits Phil Collins — yes, that Phil Collins — with having the biggest impact on his career.

“I met him when I was 10 years old, and after that, I saw a very average-looking person become a superstar,” said Hubler. “He never looked like a superstar; he looked like someone’s uncle. But he was everywhere during my impressionable teens, and I was left with the inspiration that if he can ‘do it,’ then so can I.”

Hubler shared his perspective on what makes a successful leader.

“The easy answer is usually not the right answer, and the right answer is usually not the easy answer,” he said. “Leadership is having a vision and sharing that vision with your team in a way that they can see it, too. The first step to being a successful leader is your belief in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, why should anyone else? The second step is to focus on the outcome you want, and let your team come up with the ‘how.’ Leadership is not management, and as an organization gets bigger, you need both.”

Of the 12 Principles of the Scout Law — Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent — Trustworthy resonates the most with Hubler.

“All commerce and communication is based on trust,” he said. “Without trust, you don’t have clients, employees, or a business. All points of the Scout Law are important, but trust in my line of work is the most critical one.”

The Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America will honor Hubler and the 11 other BSA VISTA Leadership Megastars at an awards reception on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at its new Program, Activity, and Resource Campus (PARC) in Exton. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
