If you want to play some of the great modern golf courses in the country, you do not have to leave Chester County, writes Jason Lusk for USA Today. 

Two of the local courses made the Golfweek’s Best 2023 list of the Top 200 Modern Courses built in or after 1960 in the United States. 

The ratings are determined by averaging overall ratings provided by the hundreds of members of Golfweek’s course-ratings panel. Only ratings submitted in the last ten years are included to ensure the list stays up-to-date. 

Stonewall (Old) in Elverson tied at No. 116 with three other courses. The course opened in 1993 and it was designed by Tom Doak. The private course has made significant progress in the ranking, as it came in No. 128 last year. 

Meanwhile, Applebrook Golf Club in Malvern placed at No. 183. The course was designed by Gil Hanse and opened in 2001. It dropped one spot on the list compared to last year.
