A beloved outdoor area near Bucks County is being considered as the location of the country’s next national park. Miles Howard wrote about the location for National Geographic.

The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, located between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, is one of several outdoors areas in the United States being considered to become the next great national park. The area has been a popular destination for hikers, wildlife enthusiasts, and general lovers of the outdoors for generations.

According to the National Parks Conservation Association, the tourism that the area attracts has helped the struggling region from an economic standpoint. A designation as a national park would help to expand financial security to the communities that is is located in.

Other areas being considered are Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Georgia, Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in Maine, and Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona, to name a few.
