Family Service of Chester County is hoping a new strategic plan unveiled in May will help it better serve the individuals and families in Chester County in need of its counseling and support services.

The 75-year-old nonprofit human service agency provides life-changing support to individuals and families through counseling, medical case management, housing support, youth services, and family strengthening programs.

The strategic plan will bring focus to the agency’s operations, improve decision-making and efficiency, providing a clear roadmap to identify goals and allocate resources effectively.

“Actions matter and we believe by focusing on the process, the outcome will speak for itself,” said Executive Director Mark Butler.

Over the next three years, the agency has a goal of becoming a “Provider of Choice” in Chester County.

Family Service has seen significant growth since 2020 and has continued to expand to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in the region.

Mental health demands have skyrocketed due to increased needs and a lack of affordable care.

The agency is working to provide access by hiring more counselors, especially within the Hispanic population in the southern part of the county.

The strategic plan will help the agency prioritize activities and adapt to changing circumstances. It will also improve communications with its stakeholders for greater impact and sustainability.

Family Service plans to focus on four areas of growth—administration, finance, human resources, and program expansion.

Experienced and culturally competent social workers at Family Service have been working since 1947 to help give people the opportunity to thrive by removing financial barriers and providing access to life-changing programs.

Family Service works to empower individuals and strengthen marginalized communities by providing compassionate, high-quality services which address the root causes of social and economic inequality.
