This March and April, Chester County offices of the Sheriff, Prothonotary, and Register of Wills collected a mighty stack of household and hygiene products to be distributed by Mighty Writers El Futuro Kennett to needy families around Mother’s Day. The distribution coincides with Mighty Writer’s first anniversary in Chester County.

Mighty Writers, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, increased their reach from Philadelphia to the Kennett Square/Toughkenamon area in 2019 to help local families. Mighty Writers El Futuro Kennett began as an organization to help people write clearly to advance their education and careers, then broadened its scope during the pandemic.

Because people can’t think or write as clearly when they are hungry, Mighty Writers began providing free lunches to children, then groceries and diapers for families in March 2020. When basic needs such as soap, toilet paper and other hygiene products are fulfilled, families can focus clearly on education, jobs and plans for the longer-term future.

By way of the grapevine, Mighty Writers heard that the Chester County Sheriff’s Office might help find people to donate supplies. Several phone calls and weeks later, Chester County Sheriff Fredda Maddox, Register of Wills Michele Vaughn and Prothonotary Deb Bookman were hosting boxes in their offices to collect donations of diapers, soap, toothpaste and more.

Around Mother’s Day, May 14, 2023, and the charitable organization’s anniversary celebration on May 18, Mighty Writers will distribute the donations to the families they support at the center.
