West Chester clinician Princess Hill’s life was far from royalty. The 28-year-old has endured immense tragedies that would be seen as insurmountable to the average human being. But Princess, or “Princey” as her friends call her, is the living proof of resilience, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press.

Hill said that she suffered abuse from family members throughout her childhood and an onslaught of mental health struggles throughout her adolescence and young adulthood.

It wasn’t until she was in her early twenties that she began to find her calling. Her cousin urged her to pursue her education at West Chester University. Hill was struggling with homelessness upon her matriculation, but thanks to the Promise Program, she was able to have all her needs met.

In May of 2022 Hill earned her master’s degree in social work. She completed four internships at behavioral health clinics in Philadelphia and Coatesville.

“Princey was truly an evolution to watch,” said Tori Nuccio, the deputy director of financial aid at WCU. “She became a mentor for other students.”

Today, Princey is a clinician at a behavioral health clinic in West Chester where she helps people who have also experienced trauma. She practices applied behavioral analysis therapy, cognitive behavioral services, and trauma-based therapy.

“I am living paycheck to paycheck, but I am the happiest I have ever been. I am no longer a victim but a victor, and I have come to love myself so much,” said Hill.
