Senior Jordyn Walker, a Devon Prep grad, had never heard of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. until he was a senior in high school, reports the university.

Now he’s breaking track and field records there and is graduating in May with a nursing degree.

Walker said he chose the university for its small community feel after a recommendation from a graduate and some personal research.

He broke a pair of 56-year-old jumping records in January, taking best marks in the long jump and triple jump with 7.08m and 13.82m efforts respectively. Then, he broke his own triple jump record Feb. 11 with a 14.25-meter effort in Boston. It is currently the 19th-best this season in the nation.

The track star is carrying a class load, track practices and meets, and off-campus nursing clinical experiences at nearby hospitals.

He’s giving medication to patients, reviewing charts and learning from top medical professionals.

“I wanted to do something that could help people and see that change in their lives,” he said. “They’ve set me up to be the best person I can be and the best nurse I can be.”
