Widener Zoom Talk on MLK Day Looks at King’s Time at Crozer Seminary
The Widener University Center for Civic and Global Engagement is hosting “A Conversation with Patrick Parr” on Zoom for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Monday, Jan. 16, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Parr is the author of ‘The Seminarian: Martin Luther King Jr. Comes of Age’, released in April 2018 by Chicago Review Press.
Based on dozens of revealing interviews with the men and women who knew him then, The Seminarian is the first definitive, full-length account of King’s years as a divinity student at Crozer Theological Seminary in Upland.
You can pre-register here for the Zoom event. A Zoom link will be provided once registration is completed.
The Seminarian was named a finalist for the 2019 Washington State Book Award and is now available in paperback.
The book recalls the challenges faced by Martin Luther King Jr. as a 19-year-old rookie preacher who left Atlanta, Ga. to attend the divinity school. He was surrounded at Crozer by a white staff and white professors and his fellow seminarians were all older.
Patrick Parr graduated with a degree in Literature and Creative Writing from Catawba College and has a Master’s degree from Seton Hill University
The Zoom talk is open to the public.
