Decade Later, Chester County Residents Still Recall Power Outage Nightmare Caused by Hurricane Sandy
On the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, Chester County residents still remember the power outage the superstorm caused in the entire region, writes Holly Herman for the Tredyffrin-Easttown Patch.
PECO, which provides service to over 1.6 million people in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, recorded 107,100 reports of power outages in Chester County from the storm.
However, the storm was not as hard on the county as surrounding areas.
“Overall, Chester County had few problems due to the worst parts of the storms passing north and south of Chester County,” said Patty Mains, spokeswoman for Chester County Emergency Services.
In terms of flooding, the storm was nothing compared to 2021 Tropical storms Fred and Ida, which left 200 people in the county without homes.
