West Chester Bocce Courts Foster Friendships, Fierce Competition
The pair of three-year-old bocce courts at VFW Post 106 in West Chester have been fostering friendships along with some trash talking when competition is fierce, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.
Member new and experienced enjoy both the social aspect and dynamic air of the game, with players coming from Downingtown, Coatesville, and Delaware County.
The 160-member West Chester Bocce Club rewards winners by adding their photo at the 807 Lincoln Avenue VFW Post, with champions’ names being added to a trophy that is exhibited at the VFW post.
“We are very competitive,” said Tom Moretti, a league commissioner who helped found the 24-team league. “Our natural tendency is to like to win. It’s still fun and started out as a pastime and now people strut their stuff after winning the championship.”
